Mississippi John Hurt, The Stanley Brothers, and The Carolina Tar Heels will mix it up with Bob Dylan and Sun Volt when the contemporary folk trio *DXR* takes the stage.
Led by 17-year-old Dan Nelson on guitar, banjo. harmonica and lead vocals, the group combines the old and the new in surprising and refreshing ways. Dan’s father Richard, a noted guitarist and head of the Jazz and Contemporary Music Program at the University of Maine at Augusta, adds tasteful lead lines on both the acoustic and the electric (as well as backing vocals), evoking influences ranging from Jerry Garcia to Bill Frisell. The group is rounded out by bassist Xar Adelberg, well known for her work with the touring gypsy-jazz group Ameranouche.
