Fool’s Day Fiasco
Thursday, April 1
11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store, Brunswick
The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store will donate all April 1 sales beyond the seasonal daily average to the Brunswick Teen Center. The event mirrors last year’s fundraiser in which The Gelato Fiasco donated $1,875 to the Teen Center.
Volunteers, including principals, teachers, coaches of local sports teams, and other local stars, will serve as celebrity scoopers throughout the event. Musicians will also perform during the afternoon and evening hours.
The Gelato Fiasco will donate all sales beyond the average for a Thursday in April. Therefore, the donation size increases as additional local residents make purchases.
“We are so happy to again partner with a local organization that does such good work for Brunswick teenagers,” said Joshua Davis, owner of The Gelato Fiasco. “By simply coming out on April 1 to enjoy a dish of gelato, customers can show their support for the Brunswick Teen Center, too. Let’s try to meet or beat last year’s great donation.”
The Teen Center encourages interaction across people of all ages, with adult volunteers, student volunteers from Bowdoin College, and teens working to create a positive community center. These interactions have been strengthened since the center merged with People Plus, with People Plus members even coming to the center to cook after-school snacks for teens.
Membership at the center is free to area teens in the sixth to 12th grades.
At the 2009 Fool’s Day Fiasco, scoopers served on average about one dish of gelato or cup of espresso per minute, every minute, for 10 hours of the day. The event raised $1,875, which helped fill the Teen Center’s end-of-year gap and pay for a month’s worth of operating costs.
