The Frozen Code is making chilly calculations all winter at The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store. The colder it gets, the more you save.

The Frozen Code is making chilly calculations all winter at The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store. (Remember last year? This is our absurd way of poking fun at the absurd fact that we sell frozen treats in Maine 12 hours a day, all winter long.)

On each day that the temperature falls below freezing, we automatically use The Frozen Code to calculate a discount on your order of gelato dishes. While the traditional Frozen Code is rumored to hold a complex series of calculations that the very first gelateri used to create perfect gelato, our senior assistant visiting archaeologist has derived fragments of the legendary code into a single calculation that can be used only in winter: Price = Price – [Price * ((32 - current temperature) / 100)]. Or, in layman’s terms: You save one percent for each degree below freezing.

We’ll be posting forecasts all winter long. Bundle up, and we’ll see you soon!

TIP: Our store is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Peak discounts generally come during visits close to opening or closing time.

UPDATE: WCSH 6 News Center 6 came and reported on the Frozen Code one cold night. Watch the story:

We remodeled our menu boards and added some delicious fancy desserts. Brownies, cookies, and cocoa, oh my!

Visitors to our Flagship Store will notice new menu boards behind the gelato case. To be clear: The price of dishes of gelato have not increased. The new boards simply reflect the after-tax price. We thought that this would make for easier mental math for customers.

We’re also adding several new dessert items:

Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae

Hot Fudge and Salted Caramel Sundaes

The menu boards also include a few new fancy dessert items, including gelato sundaes. The hot fudge and salted caramel are made right in our kitchen, and they’re absolutely delicious. You also have the option of adding a warm brownie to any sundae.

Cookie Paninis

Cookie Paninis, which feature your choice of gelato stuffed between two chocolate-chip cookies, have also been made a permanent part of the menu.

Cocoa Affogato

We’ve long offered the traditional Espresso Affogato, which is gelato with espresso poured on top. Now there’s another choice just in time for winter: the Cocoa Affogato. Choose your favorite gelato flavor, and we’ll drown it in our rich House Drinking Chocolate.

Have feedback about these new items? Email us at delicious@gelatofiasco.com.

Looking for something unique to serve or bring to your Thanksgiving gatherings? Order your Pumpkin Pie Gelato Pies today.

We’re custom-creating Pumpkin Pie Gelato Pies for your Thanksgiving gatherings. We take a graham cracker crust and fill it with a blend of our best-selling Pumpkin Pie Gelato and whipped cream. (This semifreddo blend creates the proper consistency for you to be able to cut into it as soon as it comes out of the freezer.)

It’s a truly unique — and delicious — dessert. Each pie serves 6 to 8 guests (view a whole pie) and is $17.70 plus tax. Since it contains an abundance of fresh gelato, the dessert should remain frozen until you’re ready to serve.

Each pie is custom-created and must be pre-ordered. Stop by The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store and place your order with a server. November 19 is the last day to order in time for Thanksgiving. The Gelato Fiasco will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, so you should pick up pies by 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23. Customers who order pies will also have the option to order pre-packed pints of Vanilla Bean Gelato at a special price.

Fall means new gelato and sorbetto flavors at The Gelato Fiasco, along with special drinks made for Maine's favorite season.

As you know, our kitchen team draws inspiration from the seasons and ingredients that are available for only a short window of time each year. You’ll see fall flavors all month at the Flagship Store. All this week of October 3, look for:

    Pumpkin Cream Cheese Gelato

    Apple Pie Cheesecake Gelato

    Pumpkin Pie Gelato

    Apple Spice Sorbetto

When possible, we use apples from Benoit Orchards in Lewiston. Pints of Pumpkin Pie Gelato will also be available at select Gelato Fiasco partner stores throughout New England this fall.

Also, ask for your server to make these special drinks:

Hot Cider and Pumpkin Spice Drinks

In keeping with the season, we’re also making Hot Apple Cider, Pumpkin Spice Italian Soda, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes this fall. These are special off-menu items, so you’ll have to ask your server for them.

Hand-Poured Harvest Blend Coffee

Wicked Joe’s Harvest Blend is our current seasonal hand-poured coffee blend. A combination of Sumatra and Costa Rica coffees, it is a medium roast with hints of chocolate, nuts, and fruit. The blend is Certified Organic and Fair Trade Certified.

From Down East to dessert: Maine's favorite flavor returns to the Flagship Store and independent shops.

Maine Wild Blueberry Sorbetto returns to The Gelato Fiasco today. We’re making the first batches of the season this morning at The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store, and it should be available by lunchtime.

This sorbetto is incredibly fresh:

It is made from 100 pounds of blueberries delivered yesterday by Blueberry Lynn, the founder of Blue Sky Produce. She represents families who own blueberry fields and helps to make sure that we can get all the field-fresh blueberries that we need.

This particular batch of blueberries was picked by Danner and Dewey Curtis, who own the 25-acre Dan-a-Dew Wild Blueberry Farm in Blue Hill. When harvest season rolls around, their family, friends, and neighbors pitch in to help get their pesticide-free berries from bushes to boxes.

We’ll continue to receive 200-pound deliveries of blueberries each Tuesday and Friday for the rest of the season. These batches will include berries from family blueberry fields in Jonesport, Addision, Steuben, Waltham, and Calais.

This flavor is very popular, so it can sell out quickly. (Fair warning!) Beginning on Tuesday, we’ll also start delivering Maine Wild Blueberry Sorbetto to virtually all independent grocery stores, restaurants, and scoop shops found on our list of partner locations. If you don’t see it, ask your store manager for it!

When blueberry season in Maine ends and we run out of fresh blueberries, the flavor will go into hibernation until the 2012 blueberry season begins.

We’re open until 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Hope to see you soon!

Due to demand from thirsty customers, we’re now brewing iced tea with our unique Garden of Eden loose-leaf blend. It’s organic, Fair Trade, unsweetened, and made one pitcher at a time — in other words, real iced tea.

Garden of Eden, from California’s Republic of Tea, is high-grown black tea blended with tropical flowers and flavors, including malva flowers, cornflowers, and safflowers. It creates a flavorful iced tea that is great unsweetened or with sugar, and it goes great with gelato or sorbetto.

The Royal Wedding at The Gelato Fiasco
Friday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store
74 Maine Street, Brunswick

Can’t make it across the pond to celebrate William and Kate? Hold court at The Gelato Fiasco on Friday, April 29 with a selection of flavors fit for a British king and queen.

The Gelato Fiasco Moble Unit isn’t rated for flight, so instead of setting up outside Westminster Abbey, we’ve asked our kitchen to pull out all the stops and design flavors inspired by the United Kingdom. We anticipate creating:

Eton Mess Gelato. Eton Mess is a traditional English dessert made of strawberry, meringue and cream.

Royal Wedding Fruit Cake. The happy couple selected traditional fruit cake.

Champagne Sorbetto.

Shortbread Gelato.

Lemon Curd Gelato. Perfect with afternoon tea.

Hobnobs. These are British biscuits, but we are making them into gelato.

Black Currant Trifle. Custard-like, with the Vitamin C-rich berry popular with the British people.

Seville Orange Sorbetto. Featuring the fruit often used in English marmalade.

Gooseberry Swirl Gelato. Made from the Northern European fruit.

English Breakfast Tea Gelato.

You may recognize a few of these flavors, most most are completely new and are making their premiere on Friday. You may also see a few other surprises in the case — Prince Harry’s Ginger Gelato comes to mind. And if you’re planning your own wedding, know that we can give you the royal treatment, too.

For the third consecutive year, nearly 800 local residents and college students came to The Gelato Fiasco on March 31 to support the Brunswick Teen Center.

For the third consecutive year, nearly 800 local residents and college students came to The Gelato Fiasco on March 31 to support the Brunswick Teen Center. At the conclusion of the event, we donated $2,078 in sales to the Brunswick Teen Center. Along with tips donated by our staff, additional donations from attendees, and raffle proceeds, the Teen Center collected a total of $2,515 from the event. That exceeds last year’s total of $2,024.

We donated all March 31 sales beyond the seasonal daily average for a Thursday in April. That meant that customers were able to contribute simply by purchasing a dish of gelato or cup of coffee at regular prices — no additional donation was necessary.

Dozens of volunteers from town government, local schools, and Bowdoin College served as celebrity scoopers, and several musicians performed during the afternoon and evening hours.

This event shows that when many people join together, we can collectively have a huge impact and demonstrate the strength of our community.

Thanks to everyone who bought a dish of gelato, drank a cup of coffee, or volunteered.

Our do-it-yourself Chocolate Sherry Fusion recipe creates a rich, romantic dessert drink perfect for a night by the fireplace.

Rich chocolate and a sweet dessert wine. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Chocolate Sherry Fusion

We created this special fusion of Spanish, American, and Italian tastes with our friends at South Portland Wine Company, which distributes fine wines to retailers throughout Maine. Combining the pure dark-chocolate flavor of Chocolate Noir Sorbetto from The Gelato Fiasco and an intensely sweet, smooth, and persistent wine from Jerez, Spain, the Chocolate Sherry Fusion is a rich, romantic dessert drink perfect for a night by the fireplace. Serves four, with a small bit of sorbetto and sherry remaining.

You’ll need:

One pint of Chocolate Noir Sorbetto from The Gelato Fiasco

One bottle of Nectar Pedro Ximenez Dulce Sherry Wine

Wine glasses and spoons

Steps:

Scoop at least 3 oz. of Chocolate Noir Sorbetto into a wine glass. The sorbetto should sit mostly in the middle of the glass.

Using slow, concentric motions — but not too concentric — pour the sherry into the glass until the glass is about one-third full.

Serve immediately. Guests may use a spoon to begin (little red spoons preferred), and then switch to drink out of the glass once the sorbetto and sherry are fully fused.

About the sorbetto:

Chocolate Noir Sorbetto is The Gelato Fiasco’s signature dark chocolate flavor. It is dairy-free, and its only fat content comes from the pure cocoa from which the sorbetto is made. It is created in small batches at The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store and Creation Kitchen in Brunswick, Maine.

Chocolate Noir Sorbetto is available at most of our partner locations that carry pints. View locations.

About the wine:

Produced from 100% Pedro Ximenez grapes, this sherry is an intensely sweet, smooth, and persistent wine. It is filled with flavors and aromas of dried fruits and nuts. This sherry is made from grapes that have been laid out in the sun to dry, which is why the flavors and sweetness are so concentrated.

The Gelato Fiasco’s partner stores that carry wines from South Portland Wine Company include Axis Natural Foods, Black Cherry, Brackett’s Market, Lois’ Natural Foods, Market Basket, Micucci’s, Pastiche, Rivers End Farm, Rising Tide, the Rosemont Markets, Southport General Store, Tony’s Foodland, Treats, West End Deli, and Whole Foods Market. Not all locations keep the sherry in stock, but they should be able to order it easily.

When you go out to dinner in Portland, look for The Gelato Fiasco at Front Room, Corner Room, Grill Room, Boda, Green Elephant, and Duckfat.

Several restaurants in Portland are now serving The Gelato Fiasco in creative ways. If you’re going out to dinner this weekend, look for us at:

The Front Room, The Corner Room, and The Grill Room. Harding Lee Smith’s trio of restaurants regularly offer our flavors on their dessert menus.

Duckfat. This local sensation now exclusively uses our Chocolate Gelato and Vanilla Bean Gelato in their famous shakes. Pairs perfectly with their famous Belgian fries. Try this combo once, and you’ll believe!

Boda. We worked with Boda’s culinary team to develop Thai Iced Tea Gelato. Boda supplies the iced tea to us, which provides a superior color and consistency compared to any other recipe we’ve tried.

The Green Elephant. This vegetarian bistro wanted a dairy-free flavor that would be truly unique, so we created a special Coconut Sorbetto. It’s now a hit.

It’s hard to beat the Portland culinary scene, and we’re glad to be a part of it.

Looking to take home pints of gelato or get dishes to-go? Check out our entire list of Portland partners at portland.gelatofiasco.com.

(Remember last year? This is our absurd way of poking fun at the absurd fact that we sell frozen treats 12 hours a day, all winter long.) The Frozen Code offers two great ways to save:

First, on each day that the temperature falls below freezing, we automatically use The Frozen Code to calculate a discount on your gelato order. While the traditional Frozen Code is rumored to hold a complex series of calculations that the very first gelateri used to create perfect gelato, our senior assistant archaeologist has derived fragments of the legendary code into a single calculation that can be used only in winter: Price = Price – [Price * ((32 - current temperature) / 100)]. Or, in layman’s terms: You save one percent for each degree below freezing.

Second, ask for a Frozen Code Rewards Card during your next visit. Each time you make a purchase, we’ll randomly select a letter to stamp on the card’s crossword puzzle. Whenever you complete a word, you’ll receive a coupon for a great prize, such as a free pint of gelato or a free cup of coffee. Complete all the words by the end of winter and receive a $10 rewards card! Win six rewards in all.

Spoiler Alert!

In this companion to 2009′s blockbuster “The Code of the Gelateri” and last year’s hit “Red Spoon Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Code,” Academy of Utensils Nominee Spooney (previously known as Spoon Daddy and R. Spoon) returns to The Gelato Fiasco’s red carpet for an epic adventure that begins in the nation’s capital, makes its way through coastal Maine, and ends with an action-packed adventure through Europe. In it, Spooney, who plays the First Son, falls for his bodyguard, Sorbettietta, on a culinary tour of the midcoast. During an exclusive access tour of The Gelato Fiasco’s legendary subterranean flavor recipe vault, the pair is forced to save The Frozen Code as the facility is breached by super-premium gelato impostors. With Gelato Fiasco Director of Safety and Security Walter Sobchak detained and fed a variety of pre-made gelato pastes by the impostors, the duo flees across the Atlantic hoping that the code might be best temporarily protected by the Swiss, only to be diverted to Paris because of an volcanic ashstorm. The film continues with nonstop transcontinental action and comes to a sudden, swift, and ultimately underwhelming conclusion at the world’s oldest gelateria in rural Italy.

The only thing redundant about this dessert is its name. We're filling graham cracker crusts with Pumpkin Pie Gelato for your Thanksgiving dinner.

We’re custom-creating Pumpkin Pie Gelato Pies for your Thanksgiving gatherings. We take a graham cracker crust and fill it with our best-selling Pumpkin Pie Gelato.

Please allow one week for pie creation. November 16 is the last day to order in time for Thanksgiving. The Gelato Fiasco will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, so you should pick up pies by 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24. Customers who order pies will also have the option to order pre-packed pints of gelato at a reduced price.

Rachael Ray's magazine featured The Gelato Fiasco in the October 2010 issue. "This stuff is better than 98 percent of the gelato you find in Italy," said a chef.

Rachael Ray’s magazine, Every Day with Rachael Ray, featured The Gelato Fiasco in the October 2010 issue. Chef Peter Pastan of Obelisk and Two Amys in Washington, D.C, listed The Gelato Fiasco as a hands-down favorite spot in “The Italy Lover’s Guide to America.”

He said, “This stuff is better than 98 percent of the gelato you find in Italy. They do the traditional flavors — nocciola, stracciatella — as well as interesting ones, like stout beer or olive oil, which is really good. The gelato is always at a perfect temperature, and there are no additives.”

The magazine also featured a recipe for Olive Oil Gelato from The Gelato Fiasco’s kitchen. (Note: This is a special recipe made for home kitchens. The gelato base that we make in-store does not include eggs.) Thanks to the team at Rachael’s magazine for featuring us!

One of summertime's favorite flavors is back. It's a fruit-filled dessert that earns its Maine name.

Blueberry season has begun, and that means that we are now able to make Maine Wild Maine Blueberry Sorbetto. We created our first batch today, and as usual, it is absolutely delicious.

Each batch of two pans is made from five plump-full quarts of blueberries, which are sourced from local suppliers. Blueberries comprise about 40 percent of each bite.

This is undoubtedly one of our most popular summertime flavors. We currently have 36 quarts of blueberries in the refrigerator waiting to be reborn as sorbetto. Check Today’s Flavors or call (207) 607-4002 to see if Maine Wild Blueberry Sorbetto is available today!

Did you know?
Our fruit-based sorbetto flavors typically contain at least 40 percent real fruit — such real strawberries, watermelon, or blackberries. We never, ever use flavor pastes, flavorings, or mixes.

You submitted lots of suggestions on our Facebook Page, and we're happy to share that we are creating Lemon Ginger Sorbetto for our 500th flavor.

Since we make all of our gelato and sorbetto in-house using our own recipes, our Creation Kitchen team is able to constantly create new flavors as inspiration strikes. That’s how we have been able to develop 499 flavors in fewer than three years. Recent innovations have included Mexican Shamrock Gelato, Black Forest Berry Gelato, Smoky Almond Gelato, and Coconut Pineapple Sorbetto.

For our 500th flavor, we thought we’d ask our customers for ideas. You submitted lots of great suggestions via our Facebook Page, and we’re happy to share that we are creating Lemon Ginger Sorbetto for our 500th flavor. Thanks to Jenn from Lisbon, Maine, for the idea — a gift card and Limited Edition Flavor T-Shirt are on their way, Jenn!

Lemon Ginger Sorbetto will be available on Tuesday, July 12. With a contrasting flavor palette, it should be quite unique. (And since it’s a fruit-based sorbetto flavor, it will be naturally fat-free.) We’re already coming up with ideas for the 501st flavor!

In the past, we varied the roast used in our iced coffee. The new roast will provide you a consistent experience whenever you want a jolt of cool energy this summer.

We named the roast after the meteorological phenomenon that is caused in part by hot solar wind and is seen most often in the coldest of climates. (And let’s face it — those of you who have seen the Aurora Borealis know that it is absolutely beautiful!)

Once you’ve tried it, please let us know how you like the new roast. Find our information on our Contact Us page or click on the Feedback tab on the right side of this page.

Boss Tweed would be proud. Become the mayor of The Gelato Fiasco on foursquare and receive a free size upgrade during each visit.

We’ve noticed that a few of our frequent customers like to play foursquare — the geolocation game that allows you to check-in to cafes and restaurants and earn badges for checking in to interesting places.

The game also rewards the person with the most check-ins to a location by crowning him or her as mayor.

But now, at The Gelato Fiasco, mayorship won’t just be a title. To the winner goes the spoils: The mayor is eligible for a free size upgrade on a dish of gelato or cup of custom-brewed coffee during each visit.

The current mayor is Rick N. But that could change if you exceed his check-ins!

If you ever become the mayor of The Gelato Fiasco on foursquare, simply show your server your mayor screen on your cell phone to receive the upgrade.

As you may know, we make each batch of gelato and sorbetto from scratch at our Brunswick Flagship Store. That means that our team of gelateri in the kitchen create new flavors as inspiration hits. Sometimes these flavors might correspond with new ingredients that are available for a season; at other times, they’re the result of a eureka moment.

We recently created our 450th flavor (we know — it’s hard to believe — but we counted twice!). We thought it would be fun to share with you some of our more recent creations from this spring:

Kaluha Brownie Gelato

Paypaya Sorbetto

Chocolate Lavender Rosewater Gelato

Bourbon Maple Pecan Gelato

peaNUTS! Gelato (Three types of peanut. It’s crazy.)

Caramel Cinnamon Apple Gelato

Maple Balsamic Raspberry Gelato

Chocolate Cheesecake with Caramel Swirl Gelato

Oregano Gelato

Pink and Black Peppercorn Gelato

Chocolate Orange Snap Gelato (The snap comes from the ginger.)

Blackberry Cheesecake Gelato

Cucumber Gin ‘n’ Tonic Sorbetto

Summertime is sure to spark more inspiration in our kitchen, and you’ll continue to see new flavors along with your regular favorites. Remember, you can check today’s flavors anytime at http://flavors.gelatofiasco.com, and even sign up for daily flavor updates by e-mail.

The Fool's Day Fiasco results are in! The Gelato Fiasco is donating $2,024 to the Brunswick Teen Center, exceeding last year's donation.

The results are in!

Nearly 800 local residents and college students came to The Gelato Fiasco on April 1 to support the Brunswick Teen Center at our Fool’s Day Fiasco fundraising event, resulting in a $2,024 donation to the Brunswick Teen Center. That total exceeds last year’s donation of $1,875.

This event shows that when many people come together to make a small contribution, they can have a huge impact. Not only did the event result in a substantial donation, but it also brought folks together from across our community.

We donated all April 1 sales beyond the seasonal daily average for a Thursday in April, which meant that customers were able to participate by simply purchasing a dish of gelato or cup of coffee at regular prices.

Dozens of volunteers from town government, local schools, and Bowdoin College served as celebrity scoopers during the event. Bowdoin College a capella groups Miscellania and BellaMafia performed during the evening hours.

During peak hours, we served one dish of gelato or cup of coffee every 31 seconds.

We’re so happy to make this contribution back to a community that has supported our business with such enthusiasm over the past three years. Thanks to everyone who bought a dish of gelato, drank a cup of coffee, or volunteered to make this year’s Fool’s Day Fiasco a success.

When we built The Gelato Fiasco in 2007, we planned on being in Brunswick for a very long time. Now we’re ready to further cement those plans — literally — into our store with The Gelato Fiasco Time Capsule as part of our You Wore Through The Floor Celebration.

We are going to install The Gelato Fiasco Time Capsule when we refurbish our floor and furniture in early April, and we need your help. If you want to be part of history, bring letters, photographs, artwork, recordings, or small trinkets to The Gelato Fiasco by April 3. Your item should relate to your love of gelato or Brunswick.

We’ll lock the items in the time capsule, which will be unsealed and shared with the community during a future store renovation.

Thanks,
Josh and Bruno

Join Red Spoon Jones and protect the Lost Code this winter. The Lost Code offers two great ways to save!

Join Red Spoon Jones and protect the Lost Code this winter. The Lost Code offers two great ways to save!

First, on each day that the temperature falls below freezing, we automatically use the Lost Code to calculate a discount on your gelato order. While the traditional Lost Code is rumored to hold a complex series of calculations that the very first gelateri used to create perfect gelato, our lead archaeologist has derived fragments of the legendary code into a single calculation that can be used only in winter: Price = Price – [Price * ((32 – current temperature) / 100). Or, in layman’s terms: You save one percent for each degree below freezing.

Second, ask for a Red Spoon Jones Rewards Card during your next visit.

In this companion film to last year’s blockbuster “The Code of the Gelateri,” impostor super-premium dessert forces are seeking to find and use the code for nefarious purposes. Come to The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store and join this action-packed, absolutely delicious roller-coaster of savings today!

Share a burst of Italy this Christmas by giving gift boxes of Baci chocolates from The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store.

You’ve long known that gift certificates to The Gelato Fiasco make a great holiday gift. Now you can add an additional burst of Italy by giving gift boxes of Baci chocolates from The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store.

Baci by Perugina is widely recognized as the finest brand of Italian chocolates. Each candy is made from dark chocolate and includes a whipped chocolate filling that is blended with finely chopped hazlenuts. Baci candies are so tasty that we even created a gelato flavor that is often available at the Flagship Store.

Baci means kisses in Italian, and each of these chocolate kisses is wrapped in a love note that is written in five languages. Baci packages are a great gift for the person you love — or simply a delicious treat for anyone who loves good chocolate.

Baci by Perugina brand chocolates are made in Italy. You can learn more about them on the Baci web site (but you’ll have to be able to read Italian!).

Looking for perfect holiday gifts for family, friends, or co-workers? The Gelato Fiasco Flagship Store is a one-stop shop for gift givers this holiday season. With gift cards, bagged coffee by Wicked Joe, clothing, Baci by Perugina chocolates, and more, we offer something for everyone. Stop by today.

We’re fortunate to hear a lot of happy feedback from folks who are enjoying their gelato. It’s always humbling, and every so often, we like to share some of those remarks. Stacey Evans submitted this note through our Customer Perfection Request form.

Thanks to Stacey for taking the time to share her client’s story!

TO: delicious@gelatofiasco.com
Subject: Customer Perfection Request

Hi folks,

I am a pet sitter down on Mere Point. A young couple is visiting Brunswick and left their adorable pup in my care. I suggested they visit The Gelato Fiasco to enhance their vacation. I want to share their comments I just received in an email.

“We went to Gelato Fiasco last night after leaving your home. Wow… it is fantastic. I averaged 4 gelatos a day during my time in Florence and love this style of frozen delight. I enjoy both our local gelato spots in Charlottesville (our hometown) but found the Fiasco superior to all others I think. Their gentle restraint for sugar and delicacy of flavor is exceptional. I mentioned my delight with them to the counter girl. They are worthy of praise. ”

Regards,
Stacey Evans

UPDATE: The public voting period has closed. Thanks to everyone who voted for our video (which you can still view on Intuit’s site). We’ll let you know if we win any additional prizes!

Dear Customers:

With your help, we have been named a finalist in the Intuit Small Business United contest! We are one of 50 businesses nationwide that will receive a $5,000 grant to help grow our company.

We also move to the next round of the contest, and we humbly ask for your help again. This time, $25,000 is at stake. We’ll use the money to expand our presence at partner stores throughout Maine. By increasing the availability of Brunswick-made gelato and sorbetto, we will build both The Gelato Fiasco and the state’s economy in the process. As you may know, we create all of our gelato and sorbetto right here in Brunswick using milk only from Maine farms.

Our entry for the grand prize is a viral video. We tried to make it both funny and heartfelt!

Will you watch it at this link, and then click on “Inspiring,” “Useful,” and “Funny” ratings? You’ll have to register upon voting, but it’s quick and easy. If you voted in the last round, we need your vote again! Like the last round, your votes are worth 40 percent of the final score. Vote today — the contest ends May 31!

Thanks again. We’re so grateful to have such loyal customers.

-Josh and Bruno

We want to send out a major thank-you to so many people for helping to make the Fool's Day Fiasco a big success.

Josh and Bruno sent this email out on Friday morning thanking the community for buying enough gelato and espresso during the Fool’s Day Fiasco to create a $1,875 donation for the Brunswick Teen Center. Please read the letter.

Dear Friend,

Wow. We were overwhelmed by the support that the community showed on Wednesday at our Fool’s Day Fiasco to support the Brunswick Teen Center. We are thrilled to announce that we are donating $1,875 in sales from April 1 to the Teen Center. We’re told that with this donation and additional donations made at the event, the Teen Center will be able to fill the end-of-fiscal-year budgetary gap and pay for June operating costs as described in the Times Record earlier this week.

Our thanks go out to:

CELEBRITY SCOOPERS: The team of celebrity volunteer scoopers from the Town of Brunswick, Brunswick elementary schools, Brunswick High School, and Bowdoin College provided top-notch customer service and helped bring in big crowds. We hope you enjoyed your time volunteering as much as we enjoyed working with you.

OUR STAFF: Our staff at The Gelato Fiasco wanted to show their total support for this event. Working extra hours alongside our celebrity scoopers, on average they served about one dish of gelato or cup of espresso per minute, every minute, for 10 hours of the day. And since each ounce of gelato is made in-house, they worked through the evening to keep creating more gelato to refill our rapidly emptying case. They even donated their tips for the day to the Teen Center.

URSUS VERSES: In addition to a great performance, this a capella group gave the Teen Center a stack of CDs to offer in exchange for donations.

THE TEEN CENTER BOARD: The Teen Center Board of Directors organized the celebrity scoopers and kept a presence at the store all day. We’re glad we could spend one day supporting the work they do for Brunswick’s teens every day year-round.

YOU: This event couldn’t have been a success without customers coming out to support it — and, during some parts of the evening, braving lines out the door. We hope you enjoyed your visit.

This team effort is just one more example of the strength of our greater Brunswick community. Our sincere thanks to the hundreds of people who helped make this event a success.

-Josh and Bruno

BRUNSWICK – The Gelato Fiasco and the Brunswick Teen Center will join to support Brunswick’s youth by holding a special event on Wednesday, April 1. The Maine Street flagship store of The Gelato Fiasco will donate all April 1 sales beyond the seasonal daily average to the Brunswick Teen Center.

The event, dubbed the “Fool’s Day Fiasco,” will be held during the store’s regular hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Volunteers, including principals of local schools and coaches of local sports teams, will serve as celebrity scoopers from Noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. A capella group Ursus Verses from Bowdoin College is expected to perform at 8 p.m. Random giveaways of Gelato Fiasco T-shirts, gift cards, and bagged coffee will also take place during the evening hours.

The Gelato Fiasco will donate all sales beyond the average for a Wednesday in April. Therefore, the donation size increases as additional local residents make purchases.

“We’re thrilled to partner with a local organization that does such good work for Brunswick teenagers,” said Joshua Davis, owner of The Gelato Fiasco. “By simply coming out on April 1 to enjoy a dish of gelato, customers can show their support for the Brunswick Teen Center, too.”

The Gelato Fiasco uses authentic Italian methods, Maine milk, and fresh ingredients to create innovative gelato flavors from scratch at its kitchen in Brunswick. In addition to the 30 flavors available daily at its store in Brunswick, the brand is also available at fine restaurants and select grocery stores in central and southern Maine.

UPDATE: The Brunswick Times Record ran a lengthy story on Monday about the Teen Center and mentioned Wednesday’s fundraiser. Read it here.
