Blueberry season has begun, and that means that we are now able to make Maine Wild Maine Blueberry Sorbetto. We created our first batch today, and as usual, it is absolutely delicious.

Each batch of two pans is made from five plump-full quarts of blueberries, which are sourced from local suppliers. Blueberries comprise about 40 percent of each bite.

This is undoubtedly one of our most popular summertime flavors. We currently have 36 quarts of blueberries in the refrigerator waiting to be reborn as sorbetto. Check Today’s Flavors or call (207) 607-4002 to see if Maine Wild Blueberry Sorbetto is available today!

Did you know?
Our fruit-based sorbetto flavors typically contain at least 40 percent real fruit — such real strawberries, watermelon, or blackberries. We never, ever use flavor pastes, flavorings, or mixes.

For our 500th flavor, we thought we’d ask our customers for ideas. You submitted lots of great suggestions via our Facebook Page, and we’re happy to share that we are creating Lemon Ginger Sorbetto for our 500th flavor. Thanks to Jenn from Lisbon, Maine, for the idea — a gift card and Limited Edition Flavor T-Shirt are on their way, Jenn!

Lemon Ginger Sorbetto will be available on Tuesday, July 12. With a contrasting flavor palette, it should be quite unique. (And since it’s a fruit-based sorbetto flavor, it will be naturally fat-free.) We’re already coming up with ideas for the 501st flavor!

In the past, we varied the roast used in our iced coffee. The new roast will provide you a consistent experience whenever you want a jolt of cool energy this summer.

We named the roast after the meteorological phenomenon that is caused in part by hot solar wind and is seen most often in the coldest of climates. (And let’s face it — those of you who have seen the Aurora Borealis know that it is absolutely beautiful!)

Maine-made desserts available at Cony High School

BRUNSWICK – Students eating lunch at the Cony High School in Augusta will soon have access to Maine-made super-premium gelato and sorbetto desserts from The Gelato Fiasco.

The Gelato Fiasco creates all of its gelato and sorbetto from scratch at its Creation Kitchen in Brunswick. The company uses milk from Maine farms, natural cane sugar, and real fruits, confections, and candies in its desserts.

“We are happy to partner with the Augusta School Nutrition Program to bring our Maine-made products to students,” said co-owner Joshua Davis. “Working with the program’s staff, we have created flavors and serving sizes that meet nutrition guidelines and offer students a delicious treat.”

Flavors at Cony High School will include Strawberry Lemonade Sorbetto and Brownie Batter Gelato. Strawberry Lemonade Sorbetto is naturally dairy-free and is a good choice for students who are lactose intolerant. Desserts will be packed in four-ounce single-serving containers.

The Augusta School Nutrition Program creates healthy breakfast and lunch meals for students and strives to use locally sourced foods.

The Gelato Fiasco will hold a free tasting event for students and staff at lunchtime at the high school on Friday, April 30. Gelato and sorbetto products will go on sale at the school during the week of May 3.

Nearly 800 local residents and college students came to The Gelato Fiasco on April 1 to support the Brunswick Teen Center at our Fool’s Day Fiasco fundraising event, resulting in a $2,024 donation to the Brunswick Teen Center. That total exceeds last year’s donation of $1,875.

This event shows that when many people come together to make a small contribution, they can have a huge impact. Not only did the event result in a substantial donation, but it also brought folks together from across our community.

We donated all April 1 sales beyond the seasonal daily average for a Thursday in April, which meant that customers were able to participate by simply purchasing a dish of gelato or cup of coffee at regular prices.

Dozens of volunteers from town government, local schools, and Bowdoin College served as celebrity scoopers during the event. Bowdoin College a capella groups Miscellania and BellaMafia performed during the evening hours.

During peak hours, we served one dish of gelato or cup of coffee every 31 seconds.

We’re so happy to make this contribution back to a community that has supported our business with such enthusiasm over the past three years. Thanks to everyone who bought a dish of gelato, drank a cup of coffee, or volunteered to make this year’s Fool’s Day Fiasco a success.

We are going to install The Gelato Fiasco Time Capsule when we refurbish our floor and furniture in early April, and we need your help. If you want to be part of history, bring letters, photographs, artwork, recordings, or small trinkets to The Gelato Fiasco by April 3. Your item should relate to your love of gelato or Brunswick.

Or, in layman’s terms: You save one percent for each degree below freezing.
