Perhaps your gelato really is a work of art — we have an artist in the kitchen.
What do you like to do?
I do a lot of art — like photography, sculpture, knitting, and sewing. And I like to read.
Do you have a favorite piece of work you’ve created?
I like found-art sculpture, where you take an everyday thing and turn it into art. So I took Bazooka Bubblegum and made it into a book. I used the bubblegum box for the cover, and turned the bubblegum into the book’s pages.
You’re part of our Creation Kitchen Team that makes the gelato from scratch each day. How did you get into gelato creation?
I had worked as an assistant pastry chef previously, so it made sense for me to work in the kitchen. The gelato is nice to work with because there are so many flavor options that you can build after using the same base formula. I’ve had to learn that base formula, and I have since invented other flavors on top of that formula.
What flavors did you design?
Orange Matcha Sorbetto and Spiced Pear Sorbetto.
If you were on a deserted island and could only have one Gelato Fiasco flavor, what would it be?
Plum Sorbetto. It has a surprisingly complex flavor — so much wrapped into one. I wouldn’t get bored. It’s sweet and tangy.
And a drink?
Soy Chai. I like the spiciness of it.
If you were a superhero, who would you be?
Batman. Because I have a thing for bats. Although I guess Batman didn’t like bats to begin with…
True. What’s your Gelato Fiasco fantasy?
The chocolate base should be mixed as a waterfall and a few Oompa Loompas should be alongside it in the kitchen.
You wouldn’t mind having them work alongside you?
Not at all. They could sing little songs. It’d be great.
